Adella Rubenstein

Adella Rubenstein, 79, of Brenham and the widow of Mathews Rubenstein, died December 9, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center. Adella was born December 24, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Daniel Rowe and Frances Woolheater Rowe. On June 14, 1944, she was married to Mathews Rubenstein and they spent their happy years together in Fort Worth and Brenham. She was employed as a registered nurse at the Med. Surgical Clinic in Fort Worth for 20 years. Other areas in which she served while in Fort Worth were; Girl Scout leader for 6 years; Preschool PTA President, and Altar Guild member for St. Luke s in the Meadow Episcopal Church. She joined the Tripoly club once a month and attended all the Scottish Rite and Shrine Clubs with husband Mathews until his death. Her hobbies while in Fort Worth included ceramics, rock hounding, jewelry making, photography, stamp collecting, stained glass work, sewing, crochet and knitting work, and genealogy. After Adella and Mathews moved to Brenham, she served in the following areas; joined Fortnightly Club in 1984/85 and became president in 1990/1992; had been a member of the Independence Heritage Society, the Bluebonnet Garden Club, the Washington County Historical Society, the Brenham Art Club, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, and was a member of St. Peter s Episcopal Church of Brenham. Adella was especially fond of working with the animals at the Don Austin animal shelter. Her hobbies while in Brenham included stained glass work, crafts, crocheting & knitting, and genealogy. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Rubenstein Jenkines of Lake Charles, LA; grandson, William Jenkines of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Kelli Broussard of Houston, TX; and cousin, Richard Woolheater of Georgetown, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Frances Woolheater Rowe; husband, Mathews Rubenstein; and son, David P. Rubenstein. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, in St. Peter s Episcopal Church in Brenham with Pastor Cecilia Smith officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, Dec 12 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials should be directed to the Don Austin Animal Shelter, St. Peter s Episcopal Church of Brenham, or your favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main St. in Brenham.
