Al J. Newman died December 19, 2015, at the age of 89. He was a resident of Brenham. Al was born May 11, 1926 in Fairfield, Texas to parents Altha and Everet Newman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Janet Newman, his son, David Newman, his parents, and his younger brother, Wayne Newman.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Maxey, his grandsons Noel Maxey and James Newman, his great-granddaughter, Lincoln Marie Maxey, his daughter-in-law, Gail Newman, and sister, Francine Rice.
Al graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1948 with a degree in business administration. In that same year, he moved to Houston, where he was employed by First City National Bank for 38 years. He retired from that bank in 1986 as an executive vice-president. Al lived in Houston for 46 years until moving to Brenham in 1994. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brenham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Kay Reed officiating. Visitation will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m., until service time. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill.
