Alfred A. Rodenbeck, 81, of Brenham, died Oct. 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Thursday, Oct. 6 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Rodenbeck was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Brenham, to Edd and Esther Hopmann Rodenbeck. He was baptized Dec. 10, 1929 in St. Peter½s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and was confirmed July 2, 1944 in the same church. He attended Cedar Hill School. On Sept. 29, 1951, he was married to Helen Schwarze in Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Mr. Rodenbeck was employed at Brentex Mills for 28 years and also worked about 30 years at Sealy Mattress and later worked for Brian Bender. He loved gardening, raising cattle and playing Sunday night pitch. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Survivors include his wife, Helen Rodenbeck of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Ronnie Shupak of Brenham; brother, Calvin Rodenbeck of Brenham; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Busse of Navasota and Kathryn and Gilbert Janner of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willie and Shirley Schwarze of Brenham, Louis Jr. and Maxine Schwarze of Brenham, Leroy Schwarze of Houston and Lonnie and Joyce Schwarze of Corpus Christi; sisters-in-law, Ruth Rodenbeck of Brenham, Bernice Bates of Houston, Verlin Grimm of Brenham and Vondale Schwarze of DeRidder, LA; grandchildren, Melissa Shupak of Conroe and Luke Shupak and Melanie Goodeyon of Sugar Land; great-grandchildren, Kyndall Shupak of Conroe, Camille Doig of Sugar Land and Tristan Wendt of Sugar Land; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Esther Rodenbeck; parents-in-law, Louis Sr. and Selma Schwarze; sisters, Esther Walker, Lillie Smith and Mildred Buerger; and brothers, Ed Rodenbeck, Gilbert Rodenbeck, Wilburn Rodenbeck. Pallbearers will be Luke Shupak, Troy Busse, Gil Janner, Lloyd Schwarze, Michael Schwarze, Jeff Schwarze, Bradley Schwarze and Brian Bender. Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
