Mr. Alfred "Fred" Weiss, age 94 of Brenham, the husband of Eleanor Weiss, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the family residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Philip Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Alfred Fred Weiss was born at Mound Hill, Washington County, Texas on April 23, 1916, the son of Ed and Emma Klatt Weiss. He was baptized June 18, 1916 at the St. Peter''s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, Texas, by Pastor C. Stadler. He was confirmed March 29, 1931 in St. Peter''s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, Texas, by Pastor F. Walton. : The memory verse on his confirmation certificate is taken from St. John 8:12 and reads as follows: "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." He was married to Eleanor Schmidt on September 28, 1940 at the St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas by Pastor Theo. R Streng. Alfred was a faithful member of the St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, he served on the Church council for three years and was a member of the St. Paul''s former Brotherhood and was an usher for at least 20 years, he also worked with other phases of church work. He enjoyed being a member of the Top Cat dance club. Alfred Weiss was educated in the Mound Hill public school. He was a rancher and a carpenter. Alfred was a member of Gay Hill, Mound Hill, Cedar Hill volunteer fire departmen, and a partner in the Weiss Mound Hill Community Center. Survivors include his wife Eleanor Weiss, sister-in-law: Gladys Weiss, his aunt, Lillie Weiss; nieces and nephew, Kenneth Weiss and Kathy, Betty Bugaj and Butch, Carolyn Hutson and Joel, Jeanette Wheatley and Ed, Ruth Calhoun and R. L., Clara Mae Smith and Joan Clark Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Loesch, Kenneth Weiss, Eugene Sefick, Eugene Thielemann, Wayde Bage, Bennie Emshoff and Thomas Meier. Honorary Pallbearers are; Arnold Peters, Gilbert Janner, Henry Kuecker, Leroy "Tex" Thielemann, Harper Muery, Darwin Brown, Mark Houser, Alvis Grohman Jr. and Leroy Hodde. Memorial contributions should be directed to St. Paul''s Christian Day School, St. Paul''s Church or Hospice of Brazos Valley.
