Alice Nellie Blackstone Hafner, 89, widow of Rudolph John Hafner, died November 7, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham with Rev. Jack Meeker officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at Garden of Memories in El Campo, Texas. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov 10th from 5 until 7 p.m. Alice was born November 4, 1923 in East Bernard, Texas to Benjamin and Laura Arnold Blackstone. She led a very active and fulfilled life. She loved children and was influential to many as a Sunday School teacher and SPJST youth leader in Crockett. Alice, along with her husband Rudy, left her mark in many communities across Texas where they built, owned and operated four skating rinks, including the Silver Wings Ballroom of Brenham, El Campo, and Huntsville, TX. After retiring, she moved back to Brenham where she enjoyed the Bluebonnet Opry and especially the Cowboy Church of Brenham. Alice had a heart for Jesus and her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace in heaven with the Lord. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Betty Hafner of Brenham and Mark and Debi Hafner of Leeds, Alabama; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Mason Hiatt of Springville, Utah and Dorothy Jean and Roland Gilliam of Huntsville, TX; grandchildren Kyle and Jamie Hafner, Lindsey and Joe Williams, Megan and John Cortines, Seth Hiatt and Seanne Hiatt, Ray and Jennifer Gilliam, Casey & Taminie Gilliam, Kimberly & Curtis Crandall, Felicia Blake, Jennifer & Rick Smith. Great-grandchildren, Mallie Williams, Caleb, Matthew, and Gabriel Smith, Deija, Celeste, and Sterling Caesar, Ryan, Kyle, & Emma Gilliam, Abigail Crandall; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Gay Nell Blackstone of Huntsville, Texas; sister Josie Bailey of Austin, Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Rudy, and numerous brothers and sisters. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: John Cortines, Curtis Crandall, Casey Gilliam, Ray Gilliam, Kyle Hafner, Seth Hiatt, Rick Smith and Joe Williams.
