Alice Petty

Alice Joyce Smart Petty, 75, of Brenham, died September 2, 2010, at her residence. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 6 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Mrs. Petty was born January 18, 1935 in Gilmore, Upshaw County, Texas, to Raymond and Evie Davis Smart. She attended Austin High School in Houston. On February 22, 1959, she married Robert Jean Petty. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, where she served on several committees and was an officer of the Women of the ELCA. She also served in the Washington County Healthy Living Association and was a member of the William Penn Extension Education Club. An incredible and gifted artist, Mrs. Petty was a member of the Brenham Fine Arts League where she had once served as its treasurer. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Warren Gough of Lithia, Florida and Michelle and Thomas Balcerowicz of Houston; sister, Billie Johnson of Houston; four grandchildren, Michael and Patricia Gough, Thomas and Amy Gough, Jennifer and Robert Hanson and Sarah Gwin Balcerowicz; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Christopher and Hudson Gough, John Thomas Gough, Steve Cizmar and Kayla Gayle Hanson; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Jean Petty, on December 6, 2006; four sisters; and two brothers. Pallbearers will be Warren Gough, Tom Balcerowicz, Bobby Hohlt, Byron Hohlt, Troy Head, Johnny Barkwill, Michael Gough, and Thomas Gough. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill or Hospice Brazos Valley of Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
