Alice Ahrens Rust, 93, passed away July 21, 2014 at Brenham Scott & White Hospital after suffering a massive stroke. Alice was born in Brenham December 13, 1920 to Herman and Lydia Wehring Ahrens. She was baptized April, 1921 and confirmed September 13, 1936 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Church in the Berlin community. She married Walter Rust Sr. in September of 1943. Alice loved watching birds, admiring plowed fields and wildflowers, watching old movies, and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Her first love was sewing which she did professionally all her life. Alice loved to visit and laugh with family and friends. Survivors include her son, Walt Rust and wife, Cathy; daughter Suzanne Michaels; daughter, Gail and husband Randy Winters; sisters Mary Winkelmann, Helen and Herbert Nienstedt; Mildred and Steve Franklin; and brother Herman Ahrens and wife, Joyce. Grandchildren surviving are Pat and Jennifer Rust; Scott and Tami Rust; Jeffrey and Shawna Rust; Chris and Chassidy Rust; Travis Jon and Jamie Rust; Leah and Todd Calder; Leslie and Jeff Kurtz. Step-grandchildren Kristy and Brett Veith; Brad and Kimberly Winters; Clay and Russell Perry. There are 25 great grandchildren and step-grandchildren. There are numerous nieces and nephews who always refer to her as Sweet Aunt Alice. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son and grandson, Randy and Matthew Rust; five brothers and sisters-in-law; three sisters and four brothers-in-law; nephews and one niece. Special thanks to caregiver, Karen LaCouture, who was a source of joy and friendship. The family will have a private graveside service for Alice Saturday afternoon and ask all family and friends to join them for a Celebration of Life in her home at 706 West Chauncy from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
