Allen Aquila Jackson, Jr., born April 16, 1929 in Winchester, Virginia to Allen Aquila Jackson, Sr., and Myrtle Hudgins Jackson, passed to the Lord on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Kruse Village Chapel, 1700 E. Stone St. in Brenham.
Allen (often called “Al” or “Jack”), was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Joan Elizabeth Jackson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Judy, and sons William Jackson (Kim); Thomas Aquila Hathaway Jackson (P.J.) and Birch Sabin Franklin (Norma); grandchildren include Jaime and Cole Jackson, Parker and Henry Jackson, Lindsey Jackson (Matt Sherrill); James and Hannah Wiehe, Julian and Anthony Franklin; loving sister, Betty Lee Kinney, and her daughter, Lauralee (Tom) Lowrey; great-grandchildren, Reagan and Lillian Sherrill; grand nieces Rhyann and Meghan Lowrey.
Allen eagerly entered the U.S. Army at age 16, and served from 1946 until 1949. He was assigned to Occupation Forces in Japan, and was selected to be in the Honor Guard for Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s Victory Day Parade in Tokyo. After completing his military service, Allen graduated from the University of Richmond in 1954 with a BS degree in chemistry engineering. While there, he served as president of Beta Beta Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and went on to complete his master’s degree in 1956.
Upon graduation, he joined Union Carbide in 1956 and retired in 1994. He was an accounts executive and Southwest Regional Manager. In 1996, the family moved to Chappell Hill, and then to Brenham in 2013. He remained a member of First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill.
Allen always enjoyed listening to music, even as a young man in Norfolk. He was especially fond of the bagpipes and the song “Isle of Skye” was a favorite. Playing golf and gin rummy with his longtime friends were favorite pastimes. A fan of Turner Classic movies, he was also a Civil War buff. Traveling in Europe brought great joy to him.
A true patriot, he was a strong supporter of various veterans organizations. An animal lover, he contributed to organizations for animal rescue efforts. Above all, he knew and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
