Alma Ferguson

Alma Wood Ferguson, affectionately known as Woodie, was born in Brenham, Texas on August 27, 1924. She left this life November 14, 2008. Woodie was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E. Ferguson and Mattie Reeves Wood Ferguson, by her beloved grandmother, Alma Wood, and by her sister Ellen Ferguson Van de Mark. She is survived by two nephews and a niece. Woodie, along with King Ernest Reichardt, Jr, reigned as Junior Brenham Maifest Queen, May 19, 1932. Woodie attended Brenham schools, graduating from BHS, where she was a cheerleader in 1941. She graduated from Baylor University in 1945. Among other organizations, she was a member of Delta Alpha Pi, which became Kappa Alpha Theta. She earned a masters degree from Tulane and throughout her life pursued a career in social work at Florence Crittington Home, Houston, and then HISD elementary schools. Until her death, she never had a challenge she couldn''t overcome. Woodie''s quick wit, humor and great personality made her a favorite among her multitude of friends. Her travels to foreign countries must have made the trips fun for everyone. Woodie''s generosity and love for her friends will be missed. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 20 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1q306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas.
