Alma Knipstein

Alma A. Knipstein, 89, widow of Louis Knipstein passed away January 6, 2011 in Kindred Hospital NW in Houston. A graveside service will be held Saturday January 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Lea Cemetery, with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Alma Knipstein was born December 4, 1921 to Gottlieb Leps and Mina Brau Leps in the Scranton Grove Community of Austin County. She was baptized in her home on October 2, 1922 by Rev. Poehlmann and confirmed March 21, 1937 by Rev. Arthur Hartmann in St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Brenham. She was a 1940 graduate of Brenham High School. On October 29, 1946, Alma was married to Louis H. Knipstein by Rev. Theo. Strang in St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Brenham. She was employed at Jan s Café in Brenham for a number of years, and worked in the Savitall Market in Brenham for over 25 years. Survivors include a brother, Charlie W. Kaechler of Cypress, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Knipstein, and by her brothers Albert, Herman, Gottlieb, and Eddie Leps; sister, Lillie Leps Frnke, by her parents, and sisters-in-law Alice Arndt, Lenora Roesler, and Evelyn Kaechler, and by brother-in-law, Willie Knipstein.
