Alma Steinfeld

Alma Berger Steinfeld, 90, of Brenham, died Oct. 22, 2002, in Bluebonnet Hills Nursing Center in Brenham. Mrs. Steinfeld was born August 29, 1912, in the Sandy Hill community of Washington County, TX, to Fritz and Bertha Meyer Berger. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill. On Nov. 30, 1939, she married Ben Steinfeld in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill. Mrs. Steinfeld graduated from Blinn Vocational School of Nursing in 1963 and worked as a licensed vocational nurse at St. Jude Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eunice and Elwood Kelm, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cindy and Mark Buck, and great-granddaughter, Shannon Buck, all of Brenham; sister, Ella Buerger of Sandy Hill; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry and May Dell Steinfeld, Emma Berger and Marie Steinfeld; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Steinfeld on March 27, 1992; parents, Fritz and Bertha Meyer Berger; brothers, Willie and Henry Berger; and sisters, Emma Wegner and Lydia Berger. The service in celebration of the life of Alma Steinfeld will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. The graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at St. Peter s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gay Hill. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter s Lutheran Church Organ Fund. The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff of Bluebonnet Hills Care Center for the care and concern given to Alma during the last eight years of her life. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
