Alton Wendler

Alton R. Wendler, 80, of Brenham, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Wendler was born April 20, 1922, in Washington County, TX to Herman H. and Alvina Jurchak Wendler. He attended Mill Creek School. On Oct. 21, 1947, he married Erna Mae Ludwig. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1972. On Oct. 9, 1976, he married Minnie Werland in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. Mr. Wendler loved farming and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Wendler of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert E. Brown of Chappell Hill; sister, Loraine Haarmeyer of Brenham; four grandchildren, Kim and Jeffery Meyer, Sheila and Raymond Abel, Jason Goerlitz and Dustin Brown; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Madison Meyer; sisters-in-law, Ruby Wendler of Highlands, Ora Nell Klehm of Brenham and Dodie Munson of Burton; and special friend, Eugene Goerlitz. Special thanks go to Selena Wilson, Sheila Abel, Jane Afflerbach, Jimmy Klehm, Larry Klehm family, Girling Health Care and Trinity Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; one son in infancy; and two brothers. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. today in Memorial Oaks Chapel. His nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Diabetes Association or Muscular Dystrophy Association. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
