Alvin Hanath

April 28, 1937 — April 10, 2022

Alvin Harold Hanath, 84, of Brenham, TX, passed away on April 10, 2022 in Brenham, TX.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating. Burial will follow at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church Cemetery of Berlin.

Alvin was born on April 28, 1937 in Brenham, TX to Richard and Annie Herrmann Hanath.  He attended country school in Berlin.  He served his Country for two years in the Army.  Alvin married the love of his life, Bernice Fay Rodiek, on July 1, 1962.  They had three sons Wayne, James and Kirk.

Alvin was self-employed and worked in steel construction and the retail industry. As a co-owner of Hanath Brothers Grocery & Steel Construction he not only helped sponsor a fast pitch softball team but also played on the team as a pitcher.  When he was not busy working in the steel construction business or playing fast pitch he enjoyed dancing with Bernice, gardening and being on the farm.  Later when the business became a sole proprietorship the name was changed to Westside Stop & Shop and a café was added.  In keeping with the spirit of sponsorship Alvin sponsored a bowling team and The Westside Kookers.

Those who knew Alvin know that he never met a stranger.  If you knew him at all you knew not to engage him in conversation about politics unless you had plenty of time to debate the latest political issues.  Despite having a strong opinion on pretty much everything, he had the largest heart and would help anyone in need even to his own detriment.  Alvin lived life with a happy-go-lucky attitude and always saw the best in most people; he was an optimist.  If you worked around him any amount of time you would come to the realization that he did things his way…the hard way.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Bernice Fay Hanath; son Wayne Hanath, sons and daughters-in-law James Hanath and wife Debbie, and Kirk Hanath and wife Crista; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Hanath and wife Pearlie, Elwood Hanath and wife MaeDell; sister, Amalia Woolf; sister-in-law, Gloria Hanath; grandchildren, Cody Hanath, and Kristen Rowe and husband Dustin; great-grandchildren, Vayda Nicole Rowe and Bo Wayne Rowe.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis Hanath and Bennie Hanath; sister, Anita Hanath, sister-in-law, Joycine Hanath, brother-in-law, Bobby Woolf, and nephew, Eric Hanath.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Appling, Gerald Schmidt, Lonnie Jurgens, Gene Cordes, Ardie Hanath, Bradley Hanath, Alan Hanath, and Mark Hanath.

Memorials may be given to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
