Alvin Lorenz

Alvin Lorenz, 88, of Brenham, died Feb. 15, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Lorenz was born Jan. 15, 1917, in the Long Point community of Washington County, TX, to Richard and Meta Glaesmann Lorenz. He was baptized Feb. 15, 1917, in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville by Rev. Carl Mueller and was confirmed Sept. 4, 1932, in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin by Rev. Wm. Utesch. Mr. Lorenz attended Berlin School and was a graduate of Blinn College. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. On Dec. 21, 1941, he was married to Evelyn Horstmann in St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann. Mr. Lorenz was a member of St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, the American Legion and the VFW. He retired from the City of Brenham electrical department after 25 years and later from the city parks department. Mr. Lorenz enjoyed being in his back yard, and the Lord took him home while he was sitting in his back yard. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Lorenz of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Wayne Lorenz and wife Elizabeth of Riverside, Texas; grandchildren, Jody Lee Parks and husband David of Clarksville, Indiana, C.W. Lorenz and wife Shayna of Trinity and Tiffany Ann Lorenz of Galveston; great-grandchildren, Ryan Wayne and Morgan Jean Parks of Clarksville, Indiana and Colton Parker Lorenz of Trinity; sisters and brother-in-law, Elsie Brennan of Houston, LeViola Maass of Brenham and Ella Nieman and husband Ted of Houston; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ervin Kuecker of Brenham and Mildred and John Tiaden of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Meta Lorenz; a granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Lorenz; infant brothers; sister, Erna Winkelmann; brother, Melvin Lorenz; brothers-in-law, Walter Winkelmann, Ed Brennan and Walter Maass; sisters-in-law, LaVerna Kuecker; and an infant sister-in-law, Gladys Marie Horstmann. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be C.W. Lorenz, David Parks, Charles Brennan, Karl Johnson, Jason Maass, Danny Ray Hassebrock, Mark Niemann, Ron Kuecker, Mark Kuecker, Toss Ostominski, Robert Klingsporn and Garral Tiaden. Honorary pallbearers may be Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Neumann, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Janner, Mr. and Mrs. August Pahmiyer, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weiss, Mr. and Mrs. Delphine Stoelke, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Tiemann, Bruce Ledbetter, Mr. and Mrs. Erich Oberhoff, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Hassebrock, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Maass, Donnie Kuecker, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Gaskamp, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Horstmann, Myrtle Ehrig, Eleanor Tielke, Ruth Stern, Edna Krause, Ollie Finke, Arthur Fuelberg, Gertrude Hohlt and Jeffry Maass. Memorials may be given to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham or a favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
