Alvin William Schmidt, 87, of Houston, died August 16, 2005, in Spring Branch Medical Center. Mr. Schmidt was born November 1, 1917, in Malone, Texas, to Paul Robert and Martha Olga Neuman Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church of Malone and attended Malone schools. On June 14, 1945, he married Evelyn Benson in Grace Lutheran Church in San Diego, California. Mr. Schmidt was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Brenham and was past president of Texas National Bank of Brenham. Survivors include his son, Paul William Schmidt of Fort Lewis, Washington; two daughters, Karen Bohls and Patricia Smith, both of Houston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lillie Matthews and Louise and Ray King, all of Malone; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Schmidt, on July 10, 2005; his parents; two brothers; a sister; a daughter, Sue Ellen Tompkins; a granddaughter, Kari Tompkins; and a grandson, Nathan Bohls. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19 in Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Matthew Jacobs and Pastor William Holzer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bohls, Aaron Bohls, Andrew Tompkins, Paul Tompkins, Russell Tompkins and Howard Smith. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
