Alvina Wehring

Alvina Sophie Wehring died on August 20, 2003 in College Station Medical Center at the age of 85. She was born April 15, 1918, to Otto G. and Annie Dieckmeier Wehring near Burton. She is survived by a brother, Gus A. Wehring and wife Jan of Burton; sister-in-law, Helen Wehring of Austin; nephew, Stephen W. Wehring and wife Vicki and their two children, Tye and Heidi of Dripping Springs; Gus stepsons, Andy and David Barnes and families of Phoenix; cousins, Nell Moseley of Burton and Eleanor Taylor of Houston; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Otto Wehring. Alvina was baptized and confirmed in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton, where she was a member. She was a 1938 graduate of Brenham High School and completed her training as a registered nurse at Seton Hospital in Austin in 1941. She received her anesthesia training in Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1943 and practiced as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, CRNA, until her retirement in April 1984. Most of her professional career was spent in Dallas, Lubbock and McKinney, Texas. A conservative estimate of anesthetics she administered during her 41-year career as a CRNA is approximately 40, 000 cases. Her dedication to her profession, helping others, was a dominant factor in her life. Funeral services are under the direction of Foehner Funeral Home in Burton, where visitation with family will be on Friday, Aug. 22, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Services for Alvina Wehring will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John s United Church of Christ with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton. The family requests that memorials be given to the St. John s United Church of Christ Building Fund or the Burton Cotton Gin and Museum. Pallbearers will be Tom Moseley, Henry Chuck Wehring, James Wehring, Claude Lewis, Henry Guelker, Harold Kelm, Ed Hopmann and Chance Janec. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
