Alwin Eugene Phillips, age 90, of Brenham, died Saturday, August 20, 2005, in Kruse Memorial Village. Mr. Phillips was born May 26, 1915, in Madisonville, to Ernest C. and Fannie Cobb Phillips. He was married to Ira Frances Worley on October 1, 1938, in Houston. He was retired from Texas Pipe Bending where he worked for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham, Garden Oaks Masonic Lodge #1306 in Houston, Garden Oaks Order of the Eastern Star #987 in Houston, Brenham Order of the Eastern Star #144, Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union #211 in Houston 62 year member and a life member of National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ira Frances; sons and daughters-in-law Alfred Mitch and Louise Phillips of Austin, Leonard Irvin and Becky Phillips of Brenham; brothers; Ercel Lee Phillips of Madisonville, Ernest C. Phillips and wife Ruth of Yuba City, California, Louis Phillips and wife Barbara of College Station; sister Marie Lucas of Houston; grandchildren Frederick Carre of Rouen, France, Kevin Phillips and wife Vickie of San Antonio, Bryan Matthew Phillips and wife Sandra of San Antonio, Robin Rene Phillips of Austin, Shaunna West and husband Coy of Austin, Carrie Beth Phillips of San Francisco, California and Jordan Phillips of Austin; step-grandchildren Bruce and Sarah Sorge of Waller, Cliff and Kelly Sorge of Hempstead; great grandchildren Beau Phillips, Faith Phillips and Makayla Phillips of San Antonio; step-great grandchildren Dylan, Ashlyn and Lauren Sorge of Hempstead, Collin Sorge of Waller; and numerous nieces and nephews and sisters and brothers-in-laws. The funeral service for Mr. Phillips will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel with pastors Dean Mead, Bob Craig and Larry Embry officiating. Burial to follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
