Anna Heuvel

September 20, 1916 — July 22, 2014

Our dear mother, Anna Mae Heuvel, lived among us for 97 years and passed away on July 22, 2014. Anna Mae Krueger Heuvel was born on September 20, 1916, in Washington-on-the-Brazos, Texas. She was the daughter of Johann Karl Charlie Krueger and Malinda Loesch Krueger and the youngest of eleven children. She was confirmed in the Friedens United Church of Christ and graduated from Washington School. Anna Mae met her husband, Lewis Heuvel, at a baseball game in Brenham and they were married in 1938. They were devoted to each other for 71 years. Anna Mae and Lew moved to Forsan and then Robert Lee, Texas, where they lived for 30 years and together raised two daughters. She was a member of the Robert Lee Baptist Church and volunteered in the Robert Lee Baptist nursery department for over 20 years. She enjoyed domino games with friends and family and was a member of the "88 Gang" in Robert Lee. In 1980, Anna Mae and her husband moved back to Brenham, Texas, to enjoy life with her many sisters and families. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brenham for 26 years. Anna Mae was a kind, sweet, and gentle woman who always thought of others. There was nothing more important to her than her family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Anna Mae was caring and concerned for us all until the end of her life. We treasure her beautiful smiles and the hundreds of domino games we played at the center with her and her friends. She was loved by all and we will miss her, but her memory and kind spirit will guide us always. The family would like to offer our sincere thanks to the caregivers at Broadmoor Medical Lodge of Rockwall. Anna Mae was loved by many care givers and she returned her love in her kind, sweet ways. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Heuvel, her infant son, parents, 1 brother, and 9 sisters. She is survived and remembered with gratitude by 2 daughters, Linda Behan and husband Bob of Roswell, GA, and Lois Fields and husband Al of Heath, TX; 3 grandchildren, Erin Behan Portello and husband Dennis of Santa Monica. CA. Becky Behan Scaduto and husband Lawrence of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Brad Fields of Heath, TX; 2 great grandsons, Devin Behan Portello and Owen Alexander Portello of Santa Monica, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
