Annie Bathe Werchan Boehnemann, a longtime Burton resident, entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2007, at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. Annie will lie in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham until 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, and then at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton until service time. Visitation with the family will be at Foehner Funeral Home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. Services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Greenvine, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, with the Rev. Pam Werrell officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Annie Ottilie Bathe was born January 29, 1921, to Otto and Hedwig Etzel Bathe of the La Bahia community in Washington County. She was baptized April 24, 1921, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Carmine, by the Rev. August H. Falkenberg, and confirmed by Rev. Henry Brunotte at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday, April 5, 1938. Annie attended the Boundary School and while at home, worked on the family farm. She enjoyed embroidery and crocheting, and was a talented seamstress and cook. On May 25, 1948, she was married to Edward Jim Werchan of Carmine by Rev. Leo Simon in Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Annie and Jim ran several cafes, first in the Boling area and then returning to Burton to open the White Horse Café in 1955. Upon Jim s premature death on October 24, 1961, Annie continued in the restaurant business until 1971. On October 18, 1966, she was married to Harvey F. Boehnemann at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann. Annie and Harvey enjoyed traveling and riding in the country and of course, the Houston Colt 45 s AKA the Houston Astros as well as following the hometown high school teams, missing very few games. While Harvey was active in the insurance business, Annie found a second career helping brother Herbert, the local justice of the peace, by becoming his court clerk and secretary. Annie was widowed a second time by the death of Harvey on Feb. 22, 1993. Annie always said she was not blessed to have any children, but was blessed with a loving family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and brothers, Max, Herbert, and Ewald. Numerous nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law Grace Boehnemann and Birdie Mae Borchardt and husband William, survive her. Memorials may given to Lutherhill or Emmanual Lutheran Church of Greenvine. Pallbearers will be her nephews and great-nephews. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
