Annie Sonnenburg

Marie Schulz Sonnenburg, 87, widow of Waldie W. Sonnenburg, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Brenham.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Marie Sonnenburg was born January 23, 1931 in Malone, Texas to Herman Otto and Emma Kaddatz Schulz. She was baptized March 8, 1931. On June 21, 1946, she was married to Waldie Sonnenburg. Marie taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church for many years and was active in the Ladies Club. In 1955, she and Waldie purchased Medical Arts Drug and Pharmacy, which is still owned by her family. She lovingly took care of her children until they got older, when she went back to work at the drug store, retiring in 2009 at the age of 78.

Survivors include her sons Randy Sonnenburg; Gary Sonnenburg (Jane); daughter, Beth Ann Floyd (Bruce); grandchildren: Jaci (Eddie) Barreda; Scott Sonnenburg; Sunni (Matt) Winkler; Shane Sonnenburg and fiancé Laura; Joshua (Summer) Floyd; Jonathan (April) Floyd; Sarah (John) Calhoun and Rachel (Ryan) Murphy; great-grandchildren: Kaelyn, Blaikley and Ashtyn Floyd; Mason, Madelynn, and Merit Calhoun; Kinley and Madden Floyd, and James Winkler. Also surviving is her brother, Bill (Leatha) Schulz.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Waldie; parents, Herman and Emma Schulz; brothers Eddie (Delta) Schulz, Walter (Janette) Schulz, and Felix (Adeline) Schulz.

Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Scott Sonnenburg, Joshua Floyd, Shane Sonnenburg, Matt Winkler, Eddie Barreda, John Calhourn, and Ryan Murphy.

A special thank you goes to Mable Hall and Kimberly Wright, her caregivers. We also want to thank the nurses at Brenham Nursing and Rehab and Hospice Brazos Valley for their care.

Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church.
