Anthony Scardino

January 27, 1915 — September 26, 2007

Anthony Charles Scardino was born in Houston, Texas on January 27, 1915 to Charles and Frances Vincer Scardino, the oldest of seven children. He died on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the age of 92 in the comfort of his home. He was a member of St. Mary s Catholic Church. He married the love of his life, Carrie Rao on August 15, 1936. They were married 63 years at the time of her death on December 7, 1999. They lived in Houston until his retirement from Keystone Valve Corp. in 1972 when they moved to Brenham. A machinist by trade, he enjoyed keeping up his acreage, raising cattle, gardening, cooking, breadmaking and listening to his favorite music. He had wonderful family, friends and neighbors whom he loved and enjoyed very much. Tony was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother Charlie Scardino and wife Hazel, a sister Lena and husband Roy Clairborne. He is survived by his children, Frances and husband Tom Pitts; Leon and wife Paula Scardino; grandchildren, Carrie and husband Tim Seale; Paula Huffmann, Vincent and wife Heather Scardino; great-grandchildren Lynsy and husband Terry Pohl, Abigail Seale, Dustyn Banik, Gerran Banik, Cristopher Marek; great-great grandchildren Leland and Hayden Banik, and Faith Banik. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Johnnie and Ann Scardino; Pete and Shirley Scardino; sisters and brothers-in-law Angie and the late Eddie Stepchinski and Josephine and Larry Bonker. The family would like to gratefully thank Dr. Mario Lammoglia and staff, Dr. Adel Massoud and staff, Dr. John Cochran and staff, and the College Station Medical Center Staff for the greatest of care given to Tony all of these years. We would also like to thank his many friends and neighbors for their companionship, care, love, friendship and help over the years. Thank you, Jimmy and Lorna Sommerfield, James and Glenda Sommerfield, Jessica and Nathan Baca, John and Susan Karbowski, Bill Blumenthal, Jr., Elton and Gloria Coward, Vivien and Gerry Harrison, Margaret Day, and Clyde and Barbara Wilson. Texas Home Health Hospice has given us the greatest care and support. Comfort Keepers sent us an angel named Desiree Morgan. Her help, compassion, and caring has been a great comfort to all of us. In lieu of flowers and/or plants, our family would appreciate donations in Anthony s name to Texas Home Health Hospice, 1605 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 200, College Station, Texas 77845 so they can continue to bring comfort and support to other families. The funeral mass for Anthony Charles Scardino will be celebrated Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary s Catholic Church in Brenham, with Father David Ivey Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 28 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Bill Januszewski. Serving as pallbearers are Jimmie Sommerfield, James Sommerfield, Elton Coward, John Karbowski, Cristopher Marek, and Nathan Baca. Honorary pallbearers are Gerry Harrison, Bob Cochran, Jake Freund, Bill Blumenthal, Jr., Dustyn Banik, and Gerran Banik. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
