Arlene Julia Slaughter, 80, died April 18, 2013 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at Cornerstone Christian Center, with John Paul Cruz and Gayle Grisbee officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Arlene was born Sept. 12, 1932 in Leroy, Texas to Joe Emile and Julia Mechel Bacak. She attended Abbott High School, and was retired from a career at Mrs. Baird''s Bakery, and enjoyed her retirement job as an Avon representative. Survivors include daughter, Vickie Ann Oot of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Alan and Gaylene Slaughter of Cypress; grandchildren: David and Heather Valadez, Jillian Slaughter, Grant Slaughter, and Emily Slaughter; great-grandchildren: Elliot Valadez, Emmerson Valadez, and Elissa Valadez; sister and brother-in-law Georgia Ann and Charles Belville of West, Texas, as well as numerous other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Slaughter, a brother, Robert Bacak, and her parents, Joe and Julia Bacak. Serving as pallbearers are David Valadez, Grant Slaughter, David Chapman, Will Gutierrez, Tony Raiford, and Roy Way.
