Funeral services for Arthur Fritz Dick Kochwelp, 88, husband of Evelyn Heine Kochwelp, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Denise Seymour will officiate. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 4:30 until 6:30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mr. Kochwelp passed away December 26, 2012 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Arthur Kochwelp was born in the Long Point Community of Washington County to Gus F. and Alma Kieke Kochwelp on January 4, 1924. He was baptized by Pastor Karl Mueller in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville and later confirmed there by Pastor Fred Mgebroff. After attending Hoddeville and Harrisburg schools in Washington County, he graduated from Somerville High School in 1942, where he participated in all sports. After attending Blinn College from 1942 to 1943, he was called into active duty in the U. S. Navy, serving for 2½ years as a radio operator and was stationed in the Pacific on the Admirality Islands. Upon returning to Washington Co. in 1945, he worked for several years delivering gasoline. On November 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Heine, and their union was blessed by their three children: JoAnn, Carol Sue and Douglas. On Sept. 16, 1947, Dick joined the local Ford dealership, working there for nearly 40 years. He was active in his church and the community, serving several terms on the church council of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, and 25 years as Sunday School superintendent. Mr. Kochwelp also held various offices in the V.F.W. Post 7104. A love of baseball prompted him to gather a group of returning fellow service members in a group that played the first evening baseball games in Brenham. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Heine Kochwelp; daughters Carol Sue Seeber and JoAnn Brieden, both of Brenham; son, Douglas Kochwelp; grandchildren and spouses, Stephanie and Ted Day, Kevin and Amy Seeber, Arty and Sarah Brieden, Jolene and Matt Hofftauir and Kellen and Tyler Kochwelp; and great-grandchildren, Rex Day, T.J. McCubbin, Cass and Mason Seeber and Elizabeth, Evelyn and Ann Margaret Brieden. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Erwin and Irene Kochwelp. Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Seeber, Arty Brieden, Tyler Kochwelp, Kellen Kochwelp, Ronnie Bothe, Bobbie Pieper, Ted Day and Matt Hofftauir. Honorary pallbearers are Wilbert Horstmann, Donald "Bubba" Becker, Lawrence Eberhardt Jr., T.J. McCubbin, and all officers and members of VFW Post 7104. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Funeral arrangements for Arthur F. Dick Kochwelp are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
