August Lampe, 89, of Brenham, widower of Lydia Hegefeld Lampe, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. Mr. Lampe was born in William Penn, Texas on November 15, 1917 to Charles and Emma Engel Lampe. He was baptized December 25, 1917 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn by Rev. Bohat, and confirmed on March 25, 1917 by Rev. C. J. Appel, also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mr. Lampe served in the U. S. Army as a member of the 124th Calvary Unit with the Asiatic-Pacific campaign in India and Burma. He was the recipient of two Bronze stars. On April 1, 1941, he married Lydia Hegefeld in Immanuel Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on October 13, 1990. He was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church of Wiedeville, and a life member of the American Legion. Mr. Lampe was formerly employed by Dick Tracy Tire Co. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Broecker and husband Clinton of Brenham; grandchildren: Rebecca Lynne Broecker, John Kemper, and Ginger Dannhaus and husband Kyle; great-grandchildren: Jason Dannhaus, Blake Dannhaus, Cody Kemper, and Shelby Kemper; sisters and brother-in-law Mary and August Pahmiyer and Emma Bell Neumann, all of Brenham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Lampe, his daughter, Carol Lampe Kemper, brothers Willie Lampe, Charlie Lampe, and Alfred Lampe and a sister, Rosie Schoenemann. Funeral services for August Lampe will be held Monday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Donald W. Lampe, Jason Dannhaus, Donald Lampe, Fred Schwartz, Larry Neumann, and Roy Hegefeld. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Kemper, Blake Dannhaus, Jason Dannhaus, and Shelby Kemper. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville or Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
