Mr. Oevermann was born November 4, 1924 in Rehburg, Washington County, To August H. and Elsie Jaster Oevermann. He was baptized in St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Rehburg on November 30, 1924, and confirmed at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton on April 2, 1939. He attended the Burton area schools. On November 19, 1950, he married Valeria Weidemann in St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton. He was a heavy equipment operator for Robert Lange, Inc., Alfred Boeker, Jr. and Jimmie Hahn, Inc, and later worked for the Rock Crusher Co. in Burton. Mr. Oevermann was a member of Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. Favorite activities included going to polka dances and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Valeria Oevermann; a son and daughter-in-law, August Gene III and Noemie Oevermann of Burton; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Mark Kramer of Brenham; grandchildren Brandy Monares and husband Jose; Melissa Harper and husband Patrick; Holly Lehde and husband Lance, Heath Andrew Durham, Michael Kramer, Tracie Kramer, Leslie Kramer and Roland Trevino; great-grandchildren: Michael and Justin Monares; sisters-in-law Verna Wunderlich, Geraldine Beckham; brothers Edwin Oevermann of Houston; Lewis and Voncille Oevermann of Tennessee, and Marilyn Oevermann of Burton; sisters Natalie Ginn of Burton and Rose Kenjura of Brenham; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herb and Wanda Weidemann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Charlie, Harold, George, Otto Oevermann; sister-in-law Gladys Oevermann; brothers-in-law Robert Beckham, Gerry Ginn, and Bernard Kenjura. Funeral services for August G. Oevermann will be held be held Monday, September 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Heath Durham, Lance Lehde, Michael Kramer, Roland Trevino, Jose Monares, Patrick Harper, Dan Beckham, and Gerald Beckham. His loving neighbors and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
