Barney Meyer

Barney Fred Meyer, 74, husband of Dorothy Reisner Meyer, died February 24, 2018 at his residence in Brenham.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. Pastor Kyle Merkle will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Barney Meyer was born August 27, 1943 in Brenham to Fred A. and Caroline Marie Ganske Meyer. He was baptized October 3, 1943 at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church of Gay Hill, and confirmed there on Sept. 25, 1955.

Barney attended Brenham area schools. On August 22, 1964, he was married to Dorothy Reisner, and they made their home in Washington Co. Barney worked for Odell Lueckemeyer Construction for over 50 years. Later, he owned the Barney Meyer Construction Co. in Brenham. Barney enjoyed working with his cattle, fishing, and hunting. He also served his community, and was honored to be inducted into the Maifest Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Meyer of Brenham; son, Kevin Meyer of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Jaime Cordova of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Johnny Ligues of Brenham; grandchildren: Kristy Lange and Michael Howard, Candice Steinfeld and Brian Shirley, and Michael Steinfeld; great-grandchildren: Cierra, Madalyne and Jayla Lange, Christian and Seta Naylor, Bentley Brian Shirley, Tryston Steinfeld, and Tyler Steinfeld. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Meyer; great-grandson, Mason Andrew Steinfeld.

Serving as pallbearers are Rayburn Klussmann, Gary Schulze, Mark Kettler, Scotty Schwartz, Russell Seeker, Mark Schwartz, and Jason Hupe.

Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Wellmann, David Winslow, Don Hoffman, Douglas Heckmann, Leon Schwartz, Martin Reisner, Mike Muegge, and Mike Antkowiak.

Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.
