Basil Ray "Mac" McLendon passed away peacefully on January 28, 2016, in Brenham, Texas. He was born on February 3, 1930, near Copperas Cove, Texas, to Norwood and Lena Mae (McGonagill) McLendon.
Mac retired after working 45 years with the Santa Fe Railroad, many of them as the agent in Brenham. He was past-president of the Brenham Methodist Men''s Club, a past member of the board of the Brenham Chamber of Commerce, a long-time secretary-treasurer of the Brenham Sons of Hermann No. 6, and a Mason since 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his only son Edward McLendon, two brothers, Norwood and Lamar McLendon, and his sister Billye McLendon.
Survivors include daughters, Raye (McLendon) Tilley and husband Riley of Huntsville, Buffie McLendon and Owen Krause of Kenney and Kelly (McLendon) Oosterbaan and husband Hans of Fredericksburg.
Known as "Paw-Paw" to his grandchildren, he leaves behind grandsons, Jeff Tilley, Steven Tilley, Matt McLendon, Dillon McLendon, Erik Oosterbaan, Ian Oosterbaan, Asher Oosterbaan, Eli Oosterbaan, and granddaughter Abby Brau. He is also survived by great-grandsons, Halen Tilley, Mack McLendon, Logan Tilley; and great-granddaughters, Kennedy Tilley and Emma McLendon.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Rev. Larry Embry will conduct a graveside service at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 p.m.
