Mrs. Helweg was born on February 7, 1929 in the Wesley Community to Adolph and Selma Weiss Kramer. She was baptized on March 17, 1929 and confirmed on April 18, 1943, both at Salem Lutheran Church.
Beatrice met her husband Elo Helweg at a party. They were paired for a game, pleased or not pleased. They walked down a road, talking and getting to know each other and on their return, they were asked, “Are you pleased or not pleased?”. Beatrice quickly answered, “I am very pleased.” She would later on marry Elo Helweg on October 12, 1946 at Salem Lutheran Church.
She loved to cook, fish, garden, quilt, travel, play cards, puzzles, visit family and friends, and loved a cold beer. She always had a smile for everyone, never judging, always accepting. She loved laughing and enjoying life. She made sure each of her children and grandchildren had a quilt that she sewed by hand. She loved to help with Meals on Wheels and was involved in Winedale German Singers and Home Communion Visitors of St. Paul’s.
She did not like squirrels in her garden. When she hit one out of a tree with a squash, we learned what a good pitching arm she had and the squirrels knew to stay out of her garden. She always had a carton of Blue Bell Ice Cream in her freezer. She also traveled several times to Germany.
Beatrice was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelby, Texas. She was very pleased with her entire life and will be very pleased when she once again sees Elo in Heaven.
Beatrice worked for Klein ISD beginning in 1968 and was the athletic director administrative assistant beginning in the early seventies and retiring in the nineties.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Pam Helweg of Spring, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Sam Atwood of Waco, TX, and Kathryn and Roy Meredith of Katy, TX; six grandchildren, Wade Atwood, Erin Atwood, Travis Atwood, Caroline Fago, C.J.
