Ben Denton, Jr., 91, husband of Mary Jane Michael Denton, passed away March 28, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Graveside services will be held in Prairie Lea Cemetery, Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Dean Meade officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Ben Denton, Jr. was born February 11, 1920 in Mobile, Alabama to Ben Sr. and Irene Meyers Denton. He was married to Mary Jane Michael in Forest City, Ark. on Aug. 27, 1945. A Captain in the U. S. Air Force, he participated in the Normandy Invasion during WWII. As a history buff, he loved to travel, often preferring the sites off the beaten track. History books were among his favorite reading materials. Golf and gardening were also favorite pastimes. Ben was a member of Calvary Baptist church, as well as the Sons of the American Revolution and the Armour Club. He was a vice-president with Armour/Greyhound Corp. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Denton; son James David Denton of Port Richey, Florida; daughters and son-in-law Sue Ellen and James A. Miller of New Ulm, and Mary E. Nichols of Los Angeles; grandchildren Collin Miller of Sugar Land and Ross Miller of New Ulm; great-grandchildren: Zachary Miller, Grant Miller, and Riley Miller all of Sugar Land; brother Robert Denton of Birmingham, Alabama, and sister Mary Longstreet of New Orleans, LA. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church of Brenham.
