Benhard Tegeler

Benhard Herman Tegeler, 88, of Brenham, died June 16, 2006, in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Mr. Tegeler was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Kenney, Austin County, Texas, to Benhard and Wilhelmine Heckmann Tegeler. He was baptized Nov. 18, 1917, in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg and was confirmed Jan. 31, 1932, in the same church. On Nov. 30, 1939, he was married to Hilda Ahrens in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. Mr. Tegeler was a farmer and retired from Brenham Wholesale Grocery. For 67 years, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, where he was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood for 50 years. Mr. Tegeler s interests included barbecueing with the Kenney Agricultural Society, gardening, time with his family and friends and playing cards. He was a lifelong member of Sons of Hermann. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Tegeler of Brenham; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Christine Tegeler of Spring and Kenneth and Colleen Tegeler of Brenham; 5 grandchildren, Curtis Tegeler, Stacey Burk, Keith Lorentz, Tammy Lorentz and Kara Tegeler; 7 great-grandchildren, Kadi, Paige and Hailey Tegeler, Bailey and Shelby Pine, Hannah Syptak and Jaydon M. Thomas; sisters-in-law, Irene Tegeler, Lilly Ahrens, Mary Winkelmann and Alice Rust; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Helen Nienstedt, Steve and Mildred Franklin and Herman and Joyce Ahrens. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Otto, Fred, Ed, Walter and Ernest; and sister, Clara Rodeck. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 19 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis Glenn Tegeler, Keith Lorentz, David Burk, Gerald Tegeler, Larry Tegeler, Donald Ahrens and Gerald Ahrens. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
