Benjamin G. Spiess, 85,of Welcome, Texas passed away May 25, 2018 in his home with his wife of 63 years by his side. Benjamin was born to Ben and Ella Rudloff Spiess, November 14, 1932 at the family home in Welcome. He was a lifetime member of Welcome Lutheran Church having been baptized, confirmed and married in the Welcome Lutheran Church. Benjamin married May Dell Haevischer on May 7, 1955 just three weeks after being discharged from military service.
Benjamin spent his years working as a cattle rancher in addition to working at Sealy Mattress for 30 years. Retirement brought enjoyment with his little buddy Jack, his beloved dog, at his side as they checked cows on the mule, time in the garden with his tomatoes, peppers and peaches, quiet times hunting and exciting times fishing.
Benjamin is survived by his wife, May Dell; children Debbie Woltmann and husband Ron, Glen Spiess and wife Vicki, Mark “Pete” Spiess and Boyd Spiess; seven grandchildren Joel Spiess and wife Tammy, Sarah Frazier and husband Kevin, Richard Woltmann and wife Amanda, Josh Spiess and friend,Brynna Lucas, Jeremy Spiess, Jennifer Spiess and Caitlyn Spiess; 6 great grandchildren, Benjamin Spiess, Aiden Frazier, Chloe Frazier, twins Hayes and Hadlee Woltmann, Michael Jozwiak; sister Gladys Blezinger and husband Luther, brother Johnnie Spiess and wife Gail; brothers in law Weldon Haevischer and wife Elaine, Marvin Haevischer and wife Dorothy, Gary Haevischer and wife Betty and Lloyd Haevischer and wife Saundra.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ella Spiess; parents in law, Ben and Elsa Haevischer; sisters and brothers in law, Irene and Arnold Klausmeyer Carrie and Vergil Luedeker and sister in law Judy Haevischer.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joel Spiess, Richard Woltmann, Josh Spiess, Jeremy Spiess, Kevin Frazier and nephew John Spiess.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 27 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Funeral services will be held at Welcome Lutheran Church, Welcome, Texas, at 2 pm on Monday, May 28, 2018. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
