Bennie Heitmann of Burton, Texas passed away in his home on December 13, 2016. Visitation is at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main Street, Brenham, from 5 until 8pm Friday, December 16, and funeral services are scheduled at 2 pm, Saturday, December 17. Burial will be at Bethany Christian Cemetery immediately following services.
Bennie Gary Heitmann was born December 6, 1938 in Cameron, Texas to Bernard Vincent and Mary Jo Belt Heitmann. He was baptized at the Alta Vista Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart Sherry Pope on November 22, 1960 at Shaw Street Church of Christ in Pasadena, Texas. Bennie and Sherry celebrated their 56th anniversary this year.
Bennie graduated from University of Houston in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, and remained a life-long Cougar fan. He retired at age 59 to his beloved farm in Burton TX following a 25 year career as owner of a State Farm insurance agency in Houston TX. Bennie loved animals and took in many stray cats and dogs. He was blessed with a green thumb and had lots of vegetable gardens over the years. Bennie was a true gentleman, treating everyone with kindness and respect, and was well loved by many.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lyn Heitmann; son, Bennie Gary Heitmann, Jr., of Burton; daughter, Michelle Heitmann Blake and husband Andy Kuo of The Woodlands; grandchildren: Austin Heitmann, Jacqueline Heitmann, Bennie Gary Heitmann III, and Kalina Renee Kuo; brother and sister-in-law Greg and Diane Heitmann of Washington TX; sister-in-law, Jeanne Heitmann of Lake Jackson TX; brother-in-law Steve Pope of Dallas TX, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carey and Jing Pope of Stillwater, OK. Other surviving relatives are nieces Susan Eberle, Audrey Pope, Natalee Lee, and nephews Eric Pope, Stephen Pope and Gregory Heitmann.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mike.
Serving as pallbearers are Robert Summers, Ken Harris, Bob Hataway, Gregory Heitmann, Stephen Pope, John Moore, Jim Morgan, and Abel Ferrel. Randall Dorsett will be an honorary pallbearer.
