Bernard “Ben” Edward Dannhaus, 87, passed away August 3, 2017 at Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Salem Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 4 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Ben was born August 30, 1929 in Washington County to Edward & Lillian (Lehmann) Dannhaus. He was baptized October 12, 1929 at St. John Lutheran Church of New Wehdem by Pastor M.C. Hoerwaun. He was confirmed in the same church on April 2, 1944 by Pastor H.T. Flachmeier. After attending Pleasant Hill and Salem Schools, he worked on the family farm and at the Engeling Dairy. On January 28, 1953, he was drafted by the US Army and stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. After being discharged from the Army, Ben was united in marriage to Alice (Bethke) in Burton, Texas on June 2, 1957. He was a barber for over 60 years at various places such as Streb’s, Otto’s, numerous nursing homes and shut-ins.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, as a Luther League sponsor, and a host for Senior Citizens at Salem for 20 years. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family out in The Country. One of his greatest pleasures was helping his granddaughter with her various livestock projects.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alice Dannhaus; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Vickie Dannhaus; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kaci and Mason Patranella; great-grandson, Kyle Patranella all of Brenham; brothers Edward Dannhaus and wife Sylvia, Elroy Dannhaus and wife Kristen; sisters Laura Fieseler and Doris Eckermann, all of Brenham; and Alice Heisch Neel of Bellville; nieces and nephews Lavonne Hegefeld and husband Roy, Linda Eilers and husband Ron, all of Brenham; Dana Hughes and husband Kelley of Katy, Scot Dannhaus of Burnet, Len Dannhaus and wife Amy of Chicago, Illinois, Dale Heisch and wife Wendy of Euless, Carla Terrian and husband Robert of Phoenix, Arizona, Avaree Dannhaus, Octavia Sanchez, and Rylee Dannhaus, Connie Strong and husband Lanny all of Brenham; great-nieces and great-nephews include Heather Lohman and husband Brian, Ross Hegefeld and wife Kimberly, Shelley Dippel and husband Dustin, Stacey Kaminski and husband Colton, Kathleen Dannhaus, Alexandria Dannhaus, Olivia Dannhaus, Carlos Sagliardi, Alexander Terrian, Isabella Terrian, Grant Hughes, Lillian Hughes, Pierce Hughes, Cynthia Heisch, Derrick Heisch, Joey Lee, and Joshua Troup, TJ Rust and wife Jamie, Chris Rust and wife Chassidy, great-great nieces and nephews Lila Lohman, Caylee Patterson, Cryslynn Rust, Aidan Rust, Celeste Rust and Christian Rust.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lillian Dannhaus, brother Waldo Dannhaus; brothers-in-law Ernest Fieseler, Ralph Heisch, Ron Neel, Milton Eckermann Jr, Edwin Bethke, Travis Heins; sisters-in-law Joan Dannhaus, Alvine Bethke, and Lorena Heins; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ed and Emma Bethke; nephews Kenneth Eckermann and Carlos Sagliardi.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Lehmann, Robert Lehmann, Ron Eilers, Dale Heisch, Lorne Eben, Ross Hegefeld, Kelley Hughes, Len Dannhaus, Scot Dannhaus and Lanny Strong. Honorary pallbearers are Otto Wehring, Alfred Kelm, Alvin Lehmann, Gary Grantham, Chris Rust and T.J. Rust.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the special care from Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation, Brazos Valley Hospice, Dr. Leal and Dr. Bode.
Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Christian Day School or Hospice Brazos Valley.
Services are in the care of Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main Street in Brenham.
