Bernice S. Eichler, 91, widow of Elmo Eichler, passed away February 20, 2011 in Brenham Rest Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Feb. 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine. Pastor Karen Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the La Bahia Cemetery. Her children and great-grandchldren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Bernice S. Eichler was born in Winedale, Tx. on January 22, 1920 to Robert and Elvera Aurich Klatt. She was baptized in the Winedale Lutheran Church in Winedale, and was educated in the the Winedale School. She was confirmed in the Winedale Lutheran Church on Sunday, Sept. 18, 1932 by Rev. H. Brunotte. On Sept. 15, 1940, Bernice was married to Elmo Eichler in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine by Rev. Brunotte. Bernice and her husband Elmo operated the Eichler Drive Inn in Carmine. She enjoyed playing dominoes, and loved spending time out and about with her family and friends. Bernice especially treasured the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Senior Activity Center, as well as Martin Luther Lutheran Church until the time of her death. Survivors include daughters Delores Meyer and husband Ben, and Judy Baichtal, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Laurie Meyer, Linda and Rich Kenjura, Bryan and Tina Meyer, Dusty Baichtal and significant other Rebecca Douglas; great-grandchildren: Amanda and Seth Klehm, Turner Eldridge, Megan, Cole, Bailey, Paige and Maggie Jane Kenjura, Riley, Raeben, and Ellie Meyer; step-great-great-grandson, Aiden Klehm; sister-in-law Bernice Oetken of Austin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmo in November, 2011; son-in-law Billy Baichtal, and brother and sister-in-law, Elmo and Vivian Klatt.
