Berry Ganske

June 12, 1927 — February 22, 2018

Berry L. Ganske entered into eternal peace on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at LaRoche Manor of Kruse Village in Brenham Texas.

Berry was born in Burton, Texas on June 12, 1927, the son of the Theodore and Martha Ganske. Berry had three brothers, Leroy, Erwin and Theodore Jr. The family had a large working farm and all the boys were expected to do farm work every day. Berry not only worked the farm, but also took on the task of taking care of his little brother, who unfortunately passed at a young age. Berry was a bachelor for many years until at the age of 36 he met and soon married the love of his life Sue Shannon. Their life together was spent enjoying friends and attending dance clubs in the area, where Berry will be remembered as always ready with a joke or two for anyone who would listen. Together they had two sons, Daryl and Michael. Berry served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of the Brenham American Legion Buddy Wright Post #48. He loved traveling and socializing so it was a perfect fit when he found work as a route salesman for Nabisco. In a life moment that seems almost destiny Berry left Nabisco and became a route salesman for Blue Bell Creameries, that in turn brought him back to his hometown of Brenham, Texas. In addition to Blue Bell, Berry and Sue together owned Sue’s Ceramics and Craft shop. They enjoyed working beside each other for many years, offering arts and craft classes from the shop in their home. Berry loved the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and camping. Once his beloved Sue passed he still traveled and went as far as Alaska and Hawaii. Berry had a lifelong commitment to the church where he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville and later became an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham. Berry spent his final years at Kruse Village where he became and avid bingo player and a great friend to residents and especially the staff of LaRoche Manor.

Berry was a very kind and gentle soul; he had a loving and generous heart, and will be greatly missed. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his sons and daughters-in-laws Daryl and Shelly Ganske of Brenham, Mike and Karen Ganske of Jonestown, grandchildren Spenser Ganske of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Daryk Ganske of Brenham and Erika Ganske of Jonsestown. He also leaves great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends who he considered extended family.

Family visitation will be 5-7 Sunday evening February 25 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10am Monday, February 26 at Christ Lutheran Church, Brenham. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Ganske, David Chovanec, David Hughes, Ben Boeker, Michael Pittmann and James Zettel. Honorary Pallbearers are current and former employees of Bluebell Creameries and his caregivers at Kruse Village, especially from LaRoche Manor.

Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
