Bess Burch

August 28, 1929 — September 11, 2020

Bess Habekotte Burch, 91, widow of Cecil Burch, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 in Bryan, TX. A funeral service will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Bess was born August 28, 1929, in New York City to George and Bess (Hughes) Habekotte. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Chappaqua, NY. She attended Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, then moved to Texas to be near relatives, and graduated from Brenham High School.

Bess married the love of her life Cecil Burch at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She was a faithful member of Women of the Church, and Altar Guild. Bess loved her family dearly, taking special care of her husband during his illness. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. She loved to travel and entertain in her home. Bess was a beautiful seamstress and when her children were younger, she helped design many Maifest costumes. She also made the best chocolate pudding and lemon and key lime pie.

Bess is survived by daughter, Nancy Burch of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Dougherty and husband Kelly of Plano; son Bob Burch of Brenham; grandchildren, Jonathan Burch and wife Megan, Lindsey Mueller and husband Robert, Taylor Rybarski and wife Kelsey, Kate Dominguez, Erin Mitchel and husband Ray, Bridget Melton and husband Byron, Meaghan Flores and husband Darwin, and Kara Dougherty; great-grandchildren, Adonie Bess Rybarski, Emily Dominguez, Anika Mitchel, Cecelia Mitchel, Rose Mitchel, Samuel Mitchel, Valentine Melton, Lily Flores, Audrey Flores, Claire Jackson, Emma Jackson, Dacey Mueller, Blaine Mueller, Tristan Mueller, Cullen Mueller, and Colton Mueller; nephew, Rod Reichardt and wife Janet; and great-niece and nephew, Madeline and Carter Reichardt. Bess is also survived by her special little puppy “Danni”. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bobby Schroeder; sister-in-law, Ruth Burch; and brother-in law, George Burch.

Pallbearers are Taylor Rybarski, Jonathan Burch, Wade Hughes, Eric Sommerfield, Dusty Baichtal and Brandon Starling.

The family wishes to thank and will be forever grateful to all the special caregivers who helped take care of their mother.
