Betty Jo Wright McCarty of Brenham, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the age of 91. Betty was born in Harlingen, Texas on March 27, 1932 to Joseph H. Wright and Betty Russell Hedges. As a young child she also had a loving relationship with her stepfather, Dr. George Edgerton, Jr.
After Betty completed high school, she attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi for one year. She made a career as a realtor in the real estate industry until her retirement. On July 15, 1950 she was united in marriage with Robert O. McCarty, Jr. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters.
Betty loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Special memories included attending horse shows and the Mardi Gras parades that her daughters participated in during their younger years. She was a member of the Fighting 69th Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed attending the Fighting 69th reunions, especially the ones in Europe. She also loved driving through the countryside of Brenham, dancing and the Texas A & M Fighting Aggies!
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and brother, Joseph Wright.
Survivors include sons and daughters in law, Dodd & Pamela McCarty of Loxley, AL., Russell & Susan McCarty of Pine Plains, NY., daughters and sons in law Lura McCarty Dioguardi and Frank of Covington, LA., and Michelle McCarty Jacobs and James of Liberal, KS. She is also survived by grandchildren, Joseph McCarty, Elizabeth McCarty, James (Cody) Jacobs, Tyler Jacobs, Carissa Dioguardi, Ashley Yaste, Nate Newland and Vincent Newland. Additionally, she is survived by great-grandchildren, Saul Dodd McCarty, Eva Jo McCarty, Violet Benton, Russell Benton, Kaitlynn Yaste, Jaxon Yaste, Landry Yaste, Zen Ira Jacobs and James Emmett Jacobs and a cousin, Janice Rankin.
A visitation for Betty has been scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
A private family graveside service is scheduled for a later date. Pallbearers will be Dodd McCarty, Russell McCarty, Joseph McCarty, James Jacobs, James (Cody) Jacobs, Tyler Jacobs, Nate Newland and Travis Endsley. Honorary pallbearers: Siddesh Pandit and Kapil Pandit.
