Billy Starnes, Sr.

Billy D. Starnes Sr., 89, of Houston, died Nov. 24, 2007, in Argent Court Assisted Living in Brenham. Mr. Starnes was born Feb. 14, 1918 in Lindale, Texas, and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge in Houston and a charter member of the Houston-Harris County Fair. Mr. Starnes also served as a lifetime director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Jr. and Sandra Starnes of Brenham and Jack and Debbie Starnes of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Billy Jean and Don Dittlinger of Houston; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Cecil Trull of West Columbia; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche Reeves Starnes; two brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Guadalupe Funeral Home, 6330 Gulf Freeway in Houston, with Deacon Ted Heap officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Guadalupe Funeral Home, Houston. Memorials may be given to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
