A memorial service for Billy Dave Wickel, 79, who passed away February 6, 2011, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton. Pastors Glen Schoeneberg and Greg Felder will officiate. Billy Dave Wickel, husband of Dotty Jo Baker Wickel, was born November 21, 1931 in Carmine to Herbert John and Alvina Louise Finke Wickel. He was both baptized and confirmed in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine. On January 13, 1956, he was married to Dotty Jo Baker. Billy was employed as an Instrument Technician for Union Carbide. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U. S. Air Force. Billy was a member of St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton and the Burton American Legion. A favorite hobby was to construct and fly model airplanes. He treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson. Survivors include his wife, Dotty Jo Wickel of Carmine; son David Wickel of Carmine; daughter Susanna Gibson of Lake Jackson; grandchildren: Joshua Wickel and Stephanie Santiago; great-grandson, Tristan Scott Santiago; brother Jerry Wickel and wife Jolene of Carmine, and a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Willie Schnell of Carmine. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Dwayne Wickel. Memorials may be directed to St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton.
