Bobbie Devoke

January 17, 1928 — April 4, 2011

Bobbie Joe DeVoke born on January 17, 1928, went peacefully to her heavenly home on April 4, 2011 after a long-fought battle with Alzheimer s disease. Born in Three Rivers and subsequently moving with her family to Lincoln, Bobbie was largely raised and schooled in Brenham. She held her teaching credentials and taught at several Christian schools including Ascension Lutheran in Houston and Grace Lutheran School in Brenham. Bobbie was one of four children born to the late E.T. and Alwine Zwernemann and was the beloved wife of the late John A. DeVoke Jr. She will forever be remembered by her devoted siblings: sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Willie Jordan, sister Jeanette Zwernemann and brother and sister-in-law Jim and Bonnie Zwernemann. Bobbie will be deeply missed by her adoring children: Debbie and Johnny Moore and Becky and Bill Chase of Pearland and John W. and Jennifer DeVoke of Brenham. Perhaps Bobbie s greatest joy in this world was her grandchildren: Anne and Daniel Romolo, Heidi and Curtis Eberhardt, John and Anna Hoffard, Renee and Sara DeVoke and five great grandchildren. A fun-loving person, Bobbie was a wonderful cook, enjoyed sewing for her family and treasured time babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had a special place in her heart for her little pet Chihuahuas. As many know, Bobbie was never at a loss for words and could spend hours visiting friends and family on the phone. She was busy throughout her life from her early years as a Brenham High Majorette to actively serving the Afternoon Ladies Circle at Grace Lutheran Church later in life. She especially looked forward to cooking for the annual turkey dinner and participating in the Country Store at Grace. Bobbie was known as a generous hostess and her annual Maifest party was a huge hit with the entire family. In her final years Bobbie sadly lost her ability to do all of the things she loved....cooking, eating good German food, even talking. Now God in His grace has freed her from the grips of Alzheimer''s. While as a family we mourn our earthly loss, we greatly rejoice that Our Father has made her whole again and she is now at peace in Heaven. In celebration of her blessed life, friends and family are invited to attend both a family visitation on Friday night from 6pm 8pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel and a funeral service on Saturday, beginning at 11 am at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. 979836-4564. Visit www.memorialoakschapel.com to post a tribute to the family.
