Bonnie Jean Jones Bennett, 78, died September 5, 2011 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Rev. Troy Sikes officiating. Interment will take place in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Bonnie Bennett was born October 20, 1932 in Broaddus, Texas to Arnel and Claudia Hunt Jones. She grew up and was educated in Lufkin, and was a 1949 high school graduate. She worked many years in the meat department at Rath Packing Co. in Houston, and at Brenham Wholesale Grocery Supply. Later, Bonnie served as a substitute teacher in Brenham area schools, as well as a Sunday School teacher of the Friendship Class of her church, a position she held for 17 years. She was an avid quilter, and also enjoyed making clothing for herself, children and grandchildren. Galveston was a place she loved to visit, and spending time with her grandchildren was a treasured pastime. Bonnie was an excellent cook, and loved baking for her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Grant Bennett of Brenham; a son, Kevin Brown and daughter-in-law Donna; grandchildren: Casey Harl and Cody Brown; two great-grandchildren: Ty and Colton, sisters, Linda McKeehan of Houston, and Claudatte Lindsey and husband David of New Braunfels; sister-in-law, Eileen S. Jones of Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Cherry E. Jones. Serving as pallbearers are Cody Brown, James McKeehan, Harrison Harl, Dick Rourdtree, Daniel Edmiston, and Buddy Rozell. The family wishes to thank the ICU caregivers at Scott and White Hospital and Dr. Jon Bode during Bonnie''s final days. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
