Burney Parker, Jr.

Burney Parker, Jr., 74, of Brenham, and the husband of Frances Wuensche Parker died Thursday, at the family residence. Mr. Parker was born July 12, 1928, in Houston, Texas, to Burney Sr. and Editha Hackworth Parker. He was a graduate of Lamar High School, Schriner Institute, Texas A&I University and Southern Methodist University. On July 23, 1949, he married Frances Wuensche in Bishop, Texas. Mr. Parker was a banker for 47 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brenham. He was the cofounder of Washington County Genealogical Society and was a member of Washington County Historical Commission, Independence Historical Society and Chappell Hill Historical Society. Mr. Parker was also active in Lions Clubs throughout Texas. Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Frances Parker of Brenham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Melinda Parker of Georgetown and John Edwin and Richelle Parker of Canyon Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Richard Whitaker of Charleston, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jessica Leah Parker, Arta Shae Parker, Sterling Kay Parker, Brandon Burney Parker, Valerie Richelle Parker, Kaitlin Margaret Whitaker and Richard Ryan Whitaker; one brother, James Parker of Orlando, Florida; and one sister, Margaret Dene Parker Thomson of Bertram, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m.on Monday, April 21, 2003 in First United Methodist Church in Brenham. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2003. Pallbearers will be Buster Appel, Frank Tyson, William G. Dwyer, J.D. Mueller, Tieman Dippel Jr., Jay McCulley, Gregory Trower and Jim Juneau. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Brazos Valley or the First United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
