Burney Schramme

Burney Schramme, 95, passed away May 8, 2018, in Brenham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Katrina Walther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Burney Schramme was born May 14, 1922 in Brenham to Theo and Clara Schulz Schramme. He was baptized June 11, 1922 and confirmed May 9, 1937. On August 17, 1944, he married Edna Winkelmann. They farmed for many years on their land and did commercial work throughout the community, as well as picking corn and cotton picking to supplement their livelihood. They moved to Brenham in the 70’s where Burney worked for Ellermann Feed Store, and then worked as a carpenter for Raymond Blum contractor. In his later years, he was employed by Blinn College, working in the Student Center.

In his pastime he enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with relatives and friends.

He was a lifelong member of Zionsville Lutheran Church and was very active in many projects, as well as serving on the church council and various church boards.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Schramme; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Bettie Schramme of Somerville; grandchildren: Cassi and Bubba Herrin, and Chad and Lori Schramme; great-grandchildren: Brooke Herrin and special friend Alex, Codi Herrin and special friend Bailey, Addison Schramme, Wyatt Schramme, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Schramme was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carrie and brother-in-law Edward Scheffer; brother-in-law Reinhard Winkelmann and sister-in-law Lorena Winkelmann; brother-in-law Harry Winkelmann and Violet Winkelmann; brother-in-law Walter Winkelmann and sister-in-law Elsie Winkelmann; sister-in-law Lydia Jones and brother-in-law Gordon Jones; sister-in-law Selma Quebe and Wilfred Quebe.

Serving as pallbearers are Marvin Haevischer, Walter Winkelmann Jr., Larry Winkelmann, Ronnie Winkelmann, Gordon Jones, Kenneth Jones, and Ricky Fischer.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
