Calvin Lehde

July 3, 1925 — July 2, 2016

Calvin Adolph Lehde, 90, of Brenham, passed away and went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Brenham Nursing and Rehab Center.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville with Pastor Pat Lehrer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Calvin was born July 3, 1925, in the Zionsville community of Washington County, TX, to Adolph Christof and Bertha (Lange) Lehde. He attended Harrisburg Public School and Brenham High School. He was baptized on August 30, 1925 and was confirmed on Sept. 17, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, where he was a lifetime member.

Calvin met the love of his life, Veradell Hodde, and they were married on Sept. 12, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church. They were happily married for 67 years.

Calvin enjoyed his work as a heavy equipment operator for Robert Lange and Charpiot Dunn. He then opened and ran the Lehde dairy farm. Next he spent time working at Blue Bell Creameries and then went to the Texas Highway Department, where he finally retired.

Calvin enjoyed watching all types of sports. He loved attending special events involving his family. Gardening was one of his special talents. He loved to take his sweetheart, Vera, dancing. Calvin enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with his friends in the Bluebonnet Club. He was also an active member of the Sons of Hermann and Zion Lutheran Church, where he was a council member for two terms.

Survivors include his wife, Veradell Lehde of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Dinah and Allan Niemeyer and Jane and Jonathan Little, all of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Linda Lehde of Sealy; grandchildren, Warren and Jacy Niemeyer, Myles Niemeyer and friend Ashley, Truitt and Paige Niemeyer, Dyan Knapp, Angela Knapp and friend Michael, LeaAndrea and Eric Otto, Landon Lehde and friend Kaylee, and Justin, Patrick, Jonathan and Leslie Little and friend Matthew; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Gunther, Carmen, Adrie, Lorelai, Haylie, Gavin, Raife and Colt Niemeyer and Kyler Giles; sister, Bertha Lee Kolby of Navasota; sister-in-law, Dorothy Eberhardt of Burton; brother-in-law, Raymond Blum of Brenham; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lilbon Lehde and Almon Lehde and wife Faye; sister and brother-in-law, Celonie and Henry Schwartz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorina Hodde, Annadell Blum, Allyne and Frankie Jaster, Erwin and Vlasta Hodde, Wilton and Janice Hodde, Lawrence Kolby and Erwin Eberhardt; and nephews, William Eberhardt and Darwin Jaster.

Pallbearers will be all grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be all great-grandchildren and the Bluebonnet Club of Zion Lutheran Church.

Memorials contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
