Carl Cooper Gilbert, Jr., 75, of Meridian, TX, died Dec. 26, 2016, in Clifton, TX.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Chaplain Monty Mongomery officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
Mr. Gilbert was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Dallas, TX, to Carl Cooper Sr. and Pauline Gilbert . On Nov. 27, 1981, he was married to Patsy Allen in Conroe. He was in the Navy eight years, serving on the USS Tinosa submarine.
Mr. Gilbert was retired from the Houston Police Department having served 35 years in the accident division. He was a member of Meridian First United Methodist Church of Meridian. He was an avid fan of the Houston Oilers and later the Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers and enjoyed golfing and grilling steaks.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Gilbert of Meridian; sons and daughters-in-law, Erik and Michelle Ward of Dallas and Jason and Jeri Ward of Houston; daughter, Leann Gilbert of Tulsa, OK; son, Patrick Gilbert; grandchildren, Natalie and Danielle Ward; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry J. and Shelley Cegielski of Katy; niece, Avery Cegielski; and close cousins, Teresa and Harvey Patton and children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a nephew and two uncles.
