Carl F. Meier, 80, of Burton, died Aug. 21, 2007, in a Columbus nursing home. Mr. Meier was born June 6, 1927, in Burton, to Charles and Mathilda Oevermann Meier. He was baptized July 10, 1927, in St. John s Evangelical Church in Burton by Pastor Adolph Walton and was confirmed March 29, 1942, in St. John s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Burton by Pastor Paul C. Knicker. Mr. Meier served in the Army from October 1946 to February 1948. He received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan upon his discharge. On November 14, 1948, he was married to Bern Nell Kroll in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine by Pastor E.C. Poehlmann. Mr. Meier was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton and enjoyed fishing. He was a retired truck driver. Survivors include his son, Carlton F. Meier of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Carol Koehne and husband David of Brenham and Connie Cadenhead of College Station; grandchildren, Coty and Brad Hinze, Kyle Koehne, Jason Schroeder, Adam Cadenhead, Hannah and Joel Thomas Potts; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbert Buddy and Ruby Meier and Erwin and Ruth Meier, all of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Bobbie Fay Kroll of Hempstead, Willie Mae Meyer of Giddings and Quin Dell and Jean Kroll of Brenham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bern Nell Meier; son-in-law, William Cadenhead; granddaughter, Lara Cadenhead; brother, Wilfred Meier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Aline and Lloyd Gerland, Alfrieda and Charlie Herzog and Anita Meier; brothers-in-law, Raymond Meyer and Melvin Buddy Kroll; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Frieda Kroll. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 24 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25 at St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Gerland, Dennis Gerland, Dale Kroll, Darrell Kroll, Keith Kroll, Quin Dell Kroll Jr., Keith Meier, Tim Meier and Rodney Meyer. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton or to Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham.
