Carl Andrew Schlottmann, 88, of Brenham, the husband of Bonnie Jean Schlottmann, died July 18, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Schlottmann was born April 16, 1919 in Temple, TX to Charles and Anna Kappler Schlottmann. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. He was a 1937 graduate of Brenham High School and later attended Blinn College. On March 16, 1941, he married Bonnie Jean Gajeske at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. He served in the U.S. military during WWII as 1st Lt. under General George Patton in the 3rd Army. Mr. Schlottmann was a tank company commander and knew Patton personally, serving at Bastogne during The Battle of the Bulge. He was the organizer of Company B National Guard in 1947 with Robert McBride and 17 men and was later appointed as captain and commander of the National Guard. During this time it grew into a large company of men and received one of the highest ratings that the National Guard could receive in Texas. Mr. Schlottmann served as Maifest parade marshall, Civil Defense director, Brenham National Bank Advisory Board member and usher and money counter at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham. He was a former district sales manager for the Pearl Brewing Co. for 13 years, and later was the owner of Schlottmann Oil Company from 1970 to 1990. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Schlottmann of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law: Carl Schlottmann and friend Joyce Boeker, Ron and Janice Schlottmann all of Brenham, Don and Michelle Schlottmann of Burton; sisters and brother-in-law:, Mildred Gillen of Austin and Ann and Gene Slagle of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer DeVoke and husband John of College Station, James and Christy Schlottmann of Brenham, Dr. Christopher Schlottmann and wife Lisa of Fort Worth, Austin Schlottmann of Burton; and great-grandchildren, C.J. Langley of Brenham, Renee DeVoke of College Station, Connor Schlottmann of Brenham, and Evan Schlottmann of Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Schlottmann; brother, Herman Schlottmann; and sister, Edna Townsend. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 20 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Donald Ray Ahrens, John DeVoke, Arthur Geick, Otto Lehrmann, Gus Mutscher, Bryan Rothermel, Chris Schlottmann, and James Schlottmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Schlottmann, Dr. W.F. Boy Hasskarl, J.D. Mueller, Gene Bothe, and Company B members of the National Guard. The family suggests memorials can be made to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church Day School or to Hospice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
