Carol Witherbee (aka Weatherbee) Cohnen, 81, died August 29, 2024 at her home in Brenham, TX, surrounded by her children. Carol was born January 4, 1943 in Alexandria, LA to Clyde Eugene Weatherbee and Cecilia Rose Heinemann Weatherbee of Springfield, IL. She married Melvin Laverne Cohnen on October 29, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed in May of 1962. Carol resided in Springfield, IL with her husband until 1970 when they relocated to Houston, TX. Carol worked as a nurse’s aide for a number of years, then continued her career in the insurance industry, retiring in 2014 to care for her husband, Melvin.

She enjoyed reading, watching Gene Autry movies, and attending classic car and Mustang shows with her husband and sons. Raised as an only child, Carol was independent and had a quiet strength, a quick wit, and a gift for keeping peace. She was selfless, practical, and responsible and was the rock of the family.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Cecilia Weatherbee, her infant sister, Sharon Lee Witherbee, her husband, Melvin Cohnen, and her youngest son, William “Bill” Cohnen. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Alan Laverne Cohnen and Pam Cohnen of Waller, TX, her daughter and son-in-law Alana Cohnen Roberts and Terry Roberts of Montgomery, TX, step-daughter Connie Cohnen Mancini and her husband Dan Mancini of Florida, granddaughters Heather Echols of Houston, TX and Carrie Parr (and husband Andrew Parr) of Lincoln, NE, and great-grandchildren Kailey Echols, Kallel Echols, Hudson Parr, Landon Parr, Grayson Parr, and Lucas Cohnen as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cousins in Illinois and Texas.

Burial and a graveside service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00am at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, TX, officiated by Pastor Darrin Holub of Burton, TX. Service will be followed by an intimate gathering of immediate family only.
