Carol Gregg

Carol H. Gregg, 75, of Brenham, died October 11, 2010 in The Care Center of Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Brenham. Pastors Dale Chance and Terry Dougherty will officiate. A graveside service is scheduled for Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in Roselawn Cemetery in Palestine, Texas, with Pastor Bruce Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Gregg was born July 21, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to Franklin Charles and Elza Stacy Hicks. She married Donald Davis Gregg in Collingswood NJ on December 29, 1954. She graduated from Howard Payne University in 1973 with a degree in education. She began her teaching career in Brenham in 1974. Carol, in one word, would be described as a giver. She married at the age of 19 and had her first child when she was 20. The next 20 years of her life she gave herself to her husband and daughters as a full-time homemaker. After getting her degree at the age of 39, she spent the next 20 years giving herself to her school children as a teacher. After retirement, she continued to teach and gave herself to the First United Methodist Day School. She gave to friends, neighbors, and organizations. Her last years she gave to her husband as his home care provider. She truly enjoyed being a giver. As her earthly life ended, she ran to heaven through a field of pansies to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to have eternal life. A member of Beta Sigma Pi, she was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, as well as the First United Methodist Church of Brenham. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Robert Mullins of Brownwood, and Paula and Jonathan Bret Whittaker of Chappel Hill; grandchildren: Gregg Mullins, Alissa and Michael Fulkersin, Stacy and Trey Murphy, Jonathan Bret Whittaker II, and Taylor Nicole Whittaker; one great-grandchild, Hayden Michael Fulkersin; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Carol Hicks of Vancouver, WA., as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jon and Tome Gregg of Palestine. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Donald Davis Gregg, and a granddaughter, Amanda Lea Whittaker. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church CDC.
