Carol Alice Romeiser Macklin was born April 14, 1917 on the family homestead near Glasco, Kansas to Caroline Studt and Henry Romeiser. She passed away March 16, 2011 at The Care Center of Brenham at the age of 93. She was married to Ralph Macklin on May 31, 1947. Their children were Marcia Belcheir, Boise, ID, Richard Macklin, Albuquerque, NM, and Shirley Herring of Brenham, TX. She attended elementary and high school in Simpson, KS. where she graduated as the valedictorian of her graduating class. Survivors include children Richard and Sandra Macklin of Albuquerque, NM; Marcia Belcheir and Tg Belcheir of Boise, ID, and Shirley and Keith Herring of Brenham, TX.; grandchildren: James Macklin, Christopher Macklin, Taylor and Ashley Herring, and Erika and David Fagan; great-grandchildren Kaylee Fagan and Chase Fagan. She is also survived by her brother, Lawrence Romeiser of North Platte, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters and three brothers. While living in Wichita, KS., Carol and her husband were active in the founding of the Special Needs Ministry at First United Methodist Church, in Wichita. This was the first of its kind in Wichita, and remains a vibrant ministry today. Carol taught three years in rural schools and three years in Simpson, KS. During WWII she worked as a blueprint reader at The Boeing Airplane Co. and later with Eby Construction Co. After moving to Pennsylvania with the family, she became a licensed insurance agent. She was always active in the church, with emphasis on education and music. She accompanied choirs and soloists during her school years and all throughout her life. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening, March 18, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at Berkeley United Methodist Church, 2407 Berkeley Ave. in Austin. Rev. Jeanne Devine will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Cook Walden Cemetery in Austin. Memorials may be directed to Berkeley United Methodist Church, 2407 Berkeley Ave., Austin, TX. 78745.
